  • The success story of New Era started in the 1920s when German emigrant Erhardt Koch founded New Era Co. in the states. He first produced the back then extremely popular caps in Gatsby style that were replaced by baseball caps that were published by Koch's son in the 1930s. Those first caps were designed for the Cleveland Indians.

More and more baseball teams fitted out their players with New Era caps, that were constantly changed, improved and customized.
The 59Fifty cap is still today a truly classic shaped model and was first designed in 1954.

During the biggest winter tournament in 1961 New Era rented a couple of motel rooms and created little "pop-up stores" to present and sell their range of caps. That creative idea turned out to be a great success. Only 10 years later 20 out of 24 Major League teams were playing in New Era caps.

In the early 90s the family business cinched up the successful future by negotiating a exclusive contract with the MLB. Ever since all pro players are wearing New Era on the field. About the same time New Era conquered fashion outside the fields and was seen on the streets more and more when director Spike Lee got the first customized cap by New Era.
