The Piggeries are uniquely situated in the heart of the city of Wells in Somerset, right next door to the famous cathedral.  Part of an early medieval house, left unused in the 17th Century, it was eventually used for keeping pigs, and has now been converted into holiday accommodation of great character. Something quite different! 

Step back in time.  The Piggeries are authentic, rustic and quirky, in a unique situation.  You can sit on the patio and hear the choir and the organ in the Cathedral next door.  In the garden are free range chickens.  And there is a superb view in one direction of the East End of Wells Cathedral, literally a few feet away, and in the other direction of Tor Woods (National Trust) . 

And above all it is so quiet, in the middle of England’s smallest city.

• One minute’s walk (50 m) from the Cathedral, one of the most beautiful in England.  Evensong, of broadcast quality, is at 5.15pm every weekday evening, and there are three sung services on Sundays.
• One minute’s walk from the 14th Century street, Vicars’ Close, the oldest surviving medieval street in Europe.
• Literally across the road from the award-winning pub “The Fountain”.
• Five minutes’ walk from the moated Bishop’s Palace.
• Five minutes’ walk from the market square (markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays), from the celebrated Swan Hotel, and two superb restaurants, “The Old Spot”, and “Goodfellows” fish restaurant.
• Many lovely country walks, without the need to use a car.  There is also a good bus service to many destinations in the area.  Or you can hire bicycles!
• An excellent centre for touring the Mendips (Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole Caves), the Quantocks, the Levels, a number of National Trust houses, and other hidden parts of Somerset.
•  Less than an hour from Bath, Bristol or Taunton, and – for those who can’t resist – the outlet centre, Clark’s Village, at Street!
